THE RISE AND FALL OF PEPE THE FROG
In this project, created a website in which I used the "Pepe the Frog" meme and its recent publicity as a symbol of anti-Semitism as an example to illustrate how meme theory and rhetorical velocity theory can be applied to the creation of a meme, its evolution in internet culture, its emergence into mainstream US politics and media, and the attempts of the meme's creator regain control of the meme and the context in which mainstream American culture now sees it. UNDERSTANDING HORROR MOVIE REMAKES
In this humorous essay published on Medium.com in May 2017, I analyzed the recent trend of horror movie remakes by comparing the major design characteristics and storyline differences between the original films of Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th and Stephen King’s IT, and their remakes, drawing meaning about shifting audience perspectives from these changes.
